On Tuesday 11, May, 2010, I had my first run in the running2harvard campaign. It was a 7.5 km run which officially kicked off the race. The goal of the campaign was three folded: get admitted into a top ranking US law school, run the equivalent of 6,500 km in about 16 months, raise the necessary law school funding.

On the 17th of April, I ran the Vienna City Marathon (VCM 2011). It wasn’t in my plan to run a marathon this spring, but as I hadn’t run before the home marathon in Vienna, I decided to go ahead and register for it.

My objective for the marathon was to be faster than my previous 03:13:30 in Amsterdam. Continue Reading »

At the beginning of the week I received the answer from Harvard Law School. Unfortunately, not the answer I was hoping for, as my application for admission was denied.

Given the huge volume of applications, over 7,000 this year, for a limited amount of about 450 places in the starting JD class, the Admission Commission offers no feedback on the reasons an application had been denied. Despite not receiving a feedback, I can still make an educated guess about the reasons behind the rejection. From all the possible reason, one in particular stands out, the fact that Continue Reading »

I recently realised that I am not a very patient person. Running helped me acknowledge this about myself, contrary to my previously held beliefs. I want to do many things, I want to have many things, and I want to achieve a lot. As the lyrics go: “I want it all. I want it now!“

In the first weeks of 2011 I took a break from running to allow my body to rest, and also to make a healthy change of pace in my schedule. Great timing, as I had the chance to focus for two weeks exclusively on finishing and submitting the application for Harvard Law School (HLS).

At least this is how the year starts for me and for running2harvard :)

On the last day of 2010 I crossed the 3,000 km mark (just short of 1,900 miles), about 35 weeks and 170 runs into the campaign.

Reaching this point, on this particular day was a good way for me to close an year of hard work, great dreams and lots of challenges.

In the last post I was telling you about my trip to Bucharest and the very early morning run with Andrei Rosu and Elu Rednic. But this is just the first half of the story. After all, I finished the run with Andrei at 6 a.m. and a long day was still laying ahead! What I didn’t tell you was that the day spent in Bucharest was a marathon of meetings with dear friends, inspiring individuals with great stories and adventures to share. Such was the lunch I had with Ioana, catching up and listening to the story of her daring expedition on the highest peak in North America.
